How to make a selfie video

To help support our #MadeInDerby campaign here's what you need to do. 

Step 1

Record a 1-minute selfie video

You should provide up to, but no more than a 1-minute video selfie, capturing your:

• Full name (and former name if you wish)

• Year of graduation

• Degree studied

• Where you are working now, your role, where you are based (if you are an employee)

• Name of organisation, nature of business, where you are based (if you are business owner)

Considerations:

• No more than one-minute worth of content

• Background noise

• Other people if filming in a busy place

• No content that could be offensive including what is being worn

• Include branding or name of organisation where you are now working, if possible, in background

Script guidance:

• “How did the University help make me the person I am today? Hi/Hello I’m (First and surname), I graduated from the University of Derby in (year of graduation) and studied (course name).
• “Coming to study at Derby (say how did the University help make your career)
• “(What or who) made the biggest difference whilst I was at University because:

Listed below are some example replies:

• My tutors and friends helped to make my time at Derby – it was such a supportive environment

• The chance to become independent and try new things helped make me who I am today

• My tutor helped push me, gave me confidence and was instrumental in me getting to where I am today

• I wouldn’t have this career if it wasn’t for going to Derby – it made such a huge difference to me

• Being part of Team Derby really challenged me to be the best I could be - I loved being part of a team and competing at such a high level, it made be aim high and believe that I could achieve anything

End with: “And that is how I was Made In Derby”

Step 2: word/ brief statement testimonial video

Record separately to the 1-minute selfie video, a one-word or brief statement (maximum 5 words) to sum up your Derby experience:

One-word examples:

• “Amazing”

• “Transformational”

• “Unforgettable”

• “Life-changing”

Brief statement examples:

• Name of an academic or support staff

• Memorable space

• Halls of residence

• Specific life-changing experience

• Name of partner or friend
