Glossopdale Furniture Project, Emergency Packs

Background

Established nearly 20 years ago, the Glossopdale Furniture Project supports people who have previously been homeless by helping them to furnish their new homes. Buying basic furniture and household essentials can be costly, so the group provides emergency furniture packs that include items such as:

How did the Community Fund help?

The Community Fund provided Glossopdale Furniture Project with a £600 donation to help with the project.

Joan Cook, manager of the Glossopdale Furniture Project, said: "The Glossopdale Furniture Project supports people who have previously been homeless and are given a new tenancy.  However, the accommodation they move into is completely unfurnished, and without any kind of financial support buying basic furniture and other essential items is impossible for a household whose income just covers rent, food and bills.  We supply a free Emergency Furniture Pack to help them move into their new home which means they are not sleeping on the floor in an empty room, are able to make a hot meal and not getting into debt.

"The grant we have received from the University of Derby Community Fund will enable us to help more people in the High Peak with a free Furniture Pack and we are very grateful for all their support."
