Advanced and Creative Hair Professional Level 3

The Level 3 Diploma for Advanced and Creative Hair Professionals covers all the core knowledge and skills needed to become an advanced and creative hair professional. The qualification focuses on developing expertise in areas such as:

• Consultation
• Creative restyles
• Creative styling and dressing of the hair
• Colour correction services
• Smoothing and strengthening systems
• Producing a collection of looks
• This qualification is based on employer needs and has been designed by industry leaders.

Learning will be built around the knowledge, skills, and behaviours (KSBs) set out in the apprenticeship standard. Examples include:

Knowledge and Skills

• Use of fashion-forward trends in hair, creative, and precision techniques
  • Research fashion trends and use the results to plan, design, create, produce, and present a fashion-forward hairstyle collection.
  • Understand how and when to use sectioning guidelines.
• Precision and personalised cutting techniques
  • Provide smoothing and strengthening services.
  • Maintain effective and safe methods of working and communicate effectively while completing services.
  • Understand the scientific principles behind these services.
• Advanced creative colour conversion
  • Provide creative colour conversion services to change the depth and tone of the hair.
  • Apply and remove colour products using appropriate techniques.
  • Carry out advanced colour correction, including removing artificial colour and correcting highlights and lowlights.

A blend of on-the-job and academic learning

A blend of on-the-job and academic learning

Most learning is on-the-job, guided by your employer and Instructor-Mentor. You will attend Buxton Campus one day per week for practice-based workshops, and receive regular workplace visits from your Instructor-Mentor for observations, professional discussions, and progress reviews.

How you are assessed

The Apprenticeship Assessment is the final stage of every apprenticeship. It checks overall competence, not just individual tasks, and gives apprentices the opportunity to demonstrate the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours (KSBs) they have developed. For this apprenticeship, the apprentice will complete three assessment methods:

1. Knowledge test

2. Practical observation with technology demonstration

3. Professional discussion

  Master creative cutting, colouring, and styling methods to create personalised, fashion-forward hairstyles.

• Build a Unique Portfolio
  Develop a collection of hairstyles that showcase your creativity and professionalism, helping you stand out.

• Earn a Recognised Qualification
  Gain a nationally recognised qualification that proves your skills and boosts your employability in the hair industry.

• Open Career Opportunities
  Pursue roles as a creative stylist, senior stylist, or specialist technician in salons, media, cruise ships, or product houses.

• A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above (or equivalent), including Maths and English.
  • If you have not achieved these qualifications, it may be possible to complete functional skills as part of your apprenticeship, depending on personal circumstances.
• You must have the right to work in the UK and have lived in the UK for at least the past three years.
• As this is an apprenticeship, you will also require suitable employment to undertake the programme.
• You will have already achieved a related level 2 qualification. 

Apprenticeships are funded by either the employer or the government; apprentices do not pay for their training.
