Aerodyn Ltd

Aerodyn Ltd is a Derby based instrumentation company supporting turbomachinery OEMs in the aerospace, power generation, and industrial industries. It offers products and services including consultancy, project management, design and analysis, instrumentation manufacture and application, and the design and manufacture of high-speed slip ring solutions.

Aerodyn also design and manufacture operational slip rings for defence and surveillance applications.

Why engage with Derby Innovation Accelerator?

The company were about to begin a significant growth project and were made aware that their proposed Coordinate Measurement Machine (CMM) purchase may qualify and fit the requirements of a DIA Capital Grants project.

What has been the impact of Derby Innovation Accelerator support?

The funding provided a significant contribution to the measurement equipment which enabled the company to bring dimensional inspection in house, a capability that was previously outsourced. Having this internal inspection capability will play an important role in the expansion of their slip ring manufacturing, which is a real growth area for the company. The new equipment also led to job creation for new operators and the training and upskilling of existing employees.

How have you found the experience of working with the Derby Innovation Accelerator programme team?

Chris Claypole, Managing Director, commented "The communication from the team has always been clear, timely and friendly. They understood our project and requirements and were able to advise accordingly".

The company is now in discussion with other departments within the University about recruitment and other support to attract skilled personnel in the future. They have also recently received funding support from the University's Invest to Grow programme towards expansion in their production capacity and machining capability.
