Fashion student crowned Emerging Fashion Designer

University of Derby BA (Hons) Fashion student Sarah Woodward was crowned ‘Emerging Fashion Designer’ at the Midlands Fashion Awards 2015 on Friday (October 16).

Sarah submitted six images of her womenswear collection on a professional runway at the awards evening, where she battled it out against four others for the prestigious title. Her graduate collection, called Orenda, which means a supernatural, divine force within every human being, and features soft pastel pinks and blues.

The Midlands Fashion Awards 2015 recognise and reward excellence in fashion design and creativity.

Sarah, 24, said: “I am overwhelmed and very happy to have been awarded the Emerging Designer of the Year award. The awards show was a great evening and very inspiring, it was great to meet other like-minded creative people.

“Winning the award has left me with more confidence. The feedback I have received from my designs has been so positive and complimentary.”

Sarah recently completed an internship at women’s fashion label House of Celebrity Boutique, in London.

The awards ceremony took place at the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra Centre (CSBO) and was judged by a committee of fashion experts.

David McGravie, Head of the Department of Art and Design at the University of Derby, added: “This accolade is testament to Sarah’s hard-work and dedication. The award is recognition of the high standard of teaching and student support within the University. We wish Sarah the very best of luck for the future.”
