From aerodynamics to zombies – University launches experts guide for journalists

15 July 2015

The University of Derby has launched a new Guide to Expertise, bringing together all of its media friendly experts to provide comment on everything from zombies and daydreaming to law and politics.

The Guide also provides additional information about the University, its facilities and staff. Each expert is listed under the College or department they work in along with a short biography.

Alice Oliver, Head of News at the University of Derby, said: “This Guide showcases the tremendous breadth of knowledge we have at Derby from serious academic subjects to more light-hearted topics. We have a whole host of experts in-house who have conducted extensive research projects, worked in a variety of industries and are really media-friendly.

“We are called upon daily to provide expert comment for writers and broadcasters on a wide variety of subjects – this week alone we have provided expert comment about Greece and the Euro, dieting fads, smartphone addiction, cyber security and the Budget.

“The news agenda moves fast, so we developed the Guide to help journalists get to the facts and the people they want to speak to as quickly as possible”.

The University also has some very special facilities, including its law courts and crime scene house, which can be used as filming locations.

An App for both iPhone and Android users is currently being designed and a searchable Guide, which is being updated with new experts all the time, is hosted online at: www.derby.ac.uk/experts
