1 July 2015

Six law students from the University of Derby have been recruited by local firm Flint Bishop LLP.

One of the largest law firms in the East Midlands, Flint Bishop, have undergone a major recruitment drive in the last few months which will look to increase their staff by almost 21%.

With a number of new client wins and several new projects at the Derby head office, the firm partnered with the University to hire six new graduates to fulfil both the debt recovery and a large scale file management project.

Adina Martin, Davinder Kooner and Mzwandile Mabhena have been recruited as paralegals as part of the debt recovery team, while Sian Batcheler, Sarah Jordan and Imagin Shore have been recruited for the file management project.

Adina Martin, who studied LLB Law at the University of Derby, said: “I’m delighted to join Flint Bishop. The firm has a great reputation in the area which is why I jumped at the opportunity of joining the Debt Recovery team.

“Not only does Flint Bishop have large well known household clients, the level of expertise in the business as a whole, was very impressive. My first few days have been great and I’m very keen to get stuck into the role and look forward to working with the team over the coming months.”

Andrew Cochrane, Senior Partner and Head of Licensing at Flint Bishop added: “As a mentor at the University of Derby, I have personally had the pleasure of experiencing first-hand the hard work and commitment offered by its students.

“The University has some exceptional young people, so when these positions became available I instinctively decided to pass it over to the University in the hope of helping graduates looking for work.

“Each member has represented the University in such a way that I would not hesitate to call on the support of graduates again. Well done Adina, Mzwandile, Sarah, Sian, Davinder and Imagin.”

Scott Atkins, programme leader for law at the University of Derby, added: “I am very pleased that Flint Bishop has recruited a good number of Derby graduates and this shows a strengthening of the already good links between a prestigious law firm and Derby Law School.

“I have no doubt that the partners at Flint Bishop were impressed by the students’ good legal knowledge together with the real world learning that is embedded in the Derby law degree.

“The practical experience we provide students will only increase further in our new building at Friargate. I wish the new employees every success!”
