University of Derby shortlisted for three Times Higher Education awards

22 April 2015

The University of Derby has been shortlisted for three top accolades at the Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards 2015.

The institution has been shortlisted in three categories; Outstanding Student Admissions Team, Digital Innovation of the Year, and Knowledge Exchange/Transfer Initiative of the Year.

In its application, the University’s admission team discussed ‘three-click clearing’ – a programme it introduced in 2014, which uses contact software to efficiently manage confirmation and clearing enquiries on and after A-level results day.

The impact of the service meant there was a 34% rise in applicants referring themselves to the University of Derby through clearing last year and a 68% increase in clearing applicants enrolling, compared to 2013.

The University also nominated itself for the Innovation of the Year category highlighting its digital solution for portfolio management – a browser-based tool where all projects are recorded and tracked from idea to completion.

Derby is believed to be the only University in the UK which has fully deployed a portfolio management solution and rolled it out across its IT related-activity and estates investments.

The University also put itself forward for the Knowledge Exchange/Transfer Initiative of the Year category, showing how it has developed its vision to become an Institute for Innovation in Sustainable Engineering (IISE), which is now based at Lonsdale House in the city.

Professor Philip Plowden, Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Derby, said: “We are very pleased and proud to have been shortlisted for such a range of Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards 2015.

“It is great to have this recognition of all of the hard work and commitment shown by staff across the whole University in delivering an outstanding experience.”

The Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards 2015 recognise those with exceptional knowledge and ability who make realities of strategic ambitions and deliver what staff and students need.

The winners will be selected by a panel of judges and will be announced on Thursday 18 June at a ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
