Lord Neuberger’s advice for law students was: “You need a good academic qualification to stand out from competitors and high spirits to persevere. Luck plays a very important part, being in the right place at the right time.”

Professor Kathryn Mitchell, Vice-Chancellor at the University of Derby, closed the evening with a speech thanking Lord Neuberger.

She said: “It’s been a fantastic event, and we’re so privileged to host Lord Neuberger. As a Vice-Chancellor it’s evenings like this that make me realise I have the best job in the world. Events like this are paramount to our students’ learning.”

Lord Neuberger was also taken on a private tour of the building. He said: “I think what’s being done here gives students the experience of getting on their feet and provides a law centre that gives advice. I applaud that.”
