How were you ‘Made In Derby’?

5 October 2020

The University of Derby has today (5 October) launched a new campaign to reconnect with alumni it has lost touch with and discover how the University helped to make them who they are today.

As the University approaches its 30th anniversary of gaining University status in 2022, the campaign, which is centred around the message 'Made In Derby', aims to encourage the thousands of graduates who have walked its campuses, frequented its online learning forums or studied through its academic partners over the years, to share their experiences of their time at Derby.

The University’s Development and Alumni Relations Office is already in touch with a significant number of graduates through its global alumni community, which offers lifelong professional development and further study, career and business support, as well as a range of exclusive benefits and discounts.

The new campaign aims to grow this community by reconnecting old university friends, housemates, and academic staff, so they can look back and reminisce on memories of living in halls, field trips, nights out, being part of clubs and societies, and starting their business or career. It is hoped that these stories will to continue to inspire the University’s current and future students.

Hannah Hallam, Development and Alumni Relations Manager at the University of Derby, said: "While we try to stay connected with as many of our alumni as possible, we know that we have lost touch with some since they graduated. We would therefore love them to reconnect with us and share their story about the great things they have gone onto achieve.

“Not only do our alumni inspire and motivate current and prospective students, they still have access to great benefits and are a part of our global community for as long as they want. We're proud of them all and this campaign is a great way for them to showcase their successes and reminisce about their time at Derby – did they make lifelong friends, did a lecturer have a profound impact on them, did they meet their partner here? We're asking our alumni to get in touch and tell us how their time at the University of Derby helped to make them who they are today."

Richard Gerver, Chair of the University’s Alumni and Membership Advisory Board, added: “I am so grateful and proud to have been to the University of Derby, it is where I found my career and my future life. I know that I am one of thousands who feel the same and it is why ‘Made In Derby’ is such an exciting idea; a place where we can reconnect, celebrate our stories and inspire others to write their own chapters.”
