University of Derby extends strategic partnership with Derbyshire County Cricket Club

23 May 2023

The University of Derby has agreed a three-year strategic partnership with Derbyshire County Cricket Club, which will continue to see students get the chance to develop within the world of professional sport.

A long-time Preferred Partner of the Club, the University and the Cricket Club have worked to forge a link between sport and education, with various students getting the opportunity to hone their skills.

From working with the first-team analysts and coaches, to being a crucial cog in Derbyshire’s Live Stream and media operations, this partnership has seen a number of students move into roles within professional sport off the back of their experience with Derbyshire County Cricket Club.

Derbyshire's Commercial Manager Jimmy Drew, said:

“Our partnership with the University of Derby has been a fruitful one in recent years and I’m excited to see what we can achieve together in the next three years.

“As an alumni of the University, it’s been so rewarding to see so many University of Derby students get a strong start to their careers, boosted by their work within our organisation and we’re sure there will be plenty more success stories to come.”

Ollie Shearer, Director of Sport and DSRL at the University of Derby, said:

“Real world learning and practical experience are vital for our students, ensuring they graduate with the skills they need to succeed in their careers. This continuing partnership will create even more fantastic opportunities for them to put their learning into practice and build important industry connections. From business management advice to hands-on projects for our journalism students, working with Derbyshire Cricket Club is providing a wealth of insight and experience for students across the University of Derby.”

The partnership also aligns with the University’s civic commitment, which includes support to organisations in the county who enhance levels of physical activity and sporting success. Find out more about the University’s civic work.
