Osteoporosis and Falls Management

If you are a practitioner working in osteoporosis, falls or fracture management and want to build on your existing level of health and social care, then you can gain an award related to your clinical practice. You will be encouraged to critically evaluate your work-based environment and consider a broad range of issues relating to the management of patients. This will help to enhance your clinical practice.

After completing the course, you'll be able to apply the theoretical underpinning you'll have learnt to your clinical practice, which will benefit not only yourself but your colleagues and patients.

You will be expected to consider the state of fracture management (through bone health/osteoporosis/fracture and falls management services) in your own region. You will need to assess the current situation in this field and how things may be enhanced to improve services for your patients.

How you're assessed

You'll be assessed through written assignments, case histories, log books or poster presentation.

During this course you will develop your understanding of osteoporosis, falls and the management of fracture risk. This will improve the effectiveness of your patient management and your ability to influence and direct further activities within the field of osteoporosis. You will also develop the skills to ensure you deliver enhanced service improvement in your practice.

It is anticipated that students applying for the Postgraduate Certificate in Osteoporosis & Falls Management will normally hold a professional qualification (degree or equivalent) in an area of healthcare delivery. Such is the multi-professional nature of the subject area other qualifications or experience, which demonstrates that an applicant possesses appropriate knowledge and skills at an equivalent standard, may also be acceptable.

Please note fees normally increase in line with inflation and the University's strategic approach to fees, which is reviewed on an annual basis. The total fee you pay may therefore increase after one year of study.

Please note at postgraduate level, you'll need to gain the following number of credits in total to obtain the respective awards. If you have any questions please contact us.

This means you will gain 180 credits in total to complete the full MA or MSc.

Additional information about your studies

Teaching hours

Like most universities, we operate extended teaching hours at the University of Derby, so contact time with your lecturers and tutors could be anytime between 9am and 9pm. Your timetable will usually be available on the website 24 hours after enrolment on to your course.
