I am a Senior Lecturer in Policing, within the School of Humanities, Law and Creative Arts at the University of Derby. I am currently the Programme Leader of the BA (Hons) Policing and Investigations. I also teach on our College of Policing accredited BA (Hons) Professional Policing degree course.

Experience in industry

I studied for a BSc (Hons) at the University of Central Lancashire between 2005 and 2008. In 2008 I joined Derbyshire Constabulary and was a police officer for over eleven years.

I spent three years as a uniform response officer working in Chesterfield. Then I spent two years as a Safer Neighbourhood Team officer. I subsequently qualified as a Detective Constable in 2014 and spent six years working within Chesterfield CID. This involved leading the investigation for a large number of serious and complex crimes.

I have been the Officer In the Case for a large number of trials at Crown Court, many of which have resulted in successful convictions. I am trained in the use of the Violent and Sex Offender Register.

I qualified as a Tier 3 suspect interviewer in 2018.

In 2025 I completed an MSc in Criminal Investigation at the University of Derby achieving a Distinction and the Law and Social Sciences Prize for Best PGT Policing student

International experience

In 2007 I spent four months studying at the Police Academy of the Czech Republic in Prague.
