Experience in industry

I have been working in education since I qualified as a lecturer in 2006. During my time in industry I have specialised in working with vulnerable young people, including looked after children, young offenders, NEET learners and learners excluded from mainstream school. I also taught learners aged 14-19 with additional learning needs and I have experience of working with communication workers.

I have designed, managed and taught on a range of programmes including an alternative curriculum programme for key stage 4 learners who were at high risk of exclusion and a NEET programme for 16-18 year olds who had no formal qualifications. I have worked within a secondary school developing sessions and working with specific young people who were at risk of exclusion, displaying ‘risky behaviour’ or experiencing difficulties with their peers.

I was a ‘Youth Worker in Charge’ for three years, specialising in detached youth work, predominantly targeting young people who have not yet developed the skills to attend, or choose not to attend, youth clubs or organised activities. I also managed, worked in and planned the activities for youth clubs specifically targeting vulnerable young people aged 11-19.

I have facilitated at a centre for Emotional Education which delivers a level 7 programme in Emotional Education.

I am currently a governor for a Pupil Referral Unit and a Special School.
