About

I qualified as a Registered Nurse (Adult) in 1999. My first position was in the Ear, Nose and Throat field, where I specialised in head and neck cancer. My career then took me into the world of District Nursing and I graduated as a Specialist Practitioner in District Nursing with V100 prescribing in 2003. Before joining the University of Derby in 2008, I led two projects, one on end-of-life care and the other on falls prevention. My other areas of specialist interest are around long-term condition management, especially dementia and frailty.

Teaching responsibilities

I am Programme Leader for Community Specialist Practice (District Nursing and General Practice Nursing) and pathway leader for District Nursing.

I am Module Leader for Principles of Practice Assessment and Applied V100 prescribing.

Professional interests

My professional interests are around care of Adults in the Community. The need to provide holistic care in order to improve the quality of life. In order to achieve this, practitioners need to work in an inter-professional way. From this has developed my interest in inter-professional learning and the need for students to learn from across all disciplines of health and social care.

Research interests

Fraility and the need for early assessment in the community.
