About
I am a Lecturer in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Derby with over 10 years of research and teaching experience. I am a fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and previously served as Chair of the IEEE Sensors Council Young Professionals, reflecting my active engagement and leadership within the international engineering community. I obtained my PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Glasgow in 2019, after which I continued at the same institution as a Postdoctoral Researcher for nearly three years. During this period, I contributed to major EPSRC- and EU-funded research projects, including the Horizon 2020 FET PH‑CODING project (€2.99M) and the PRINTSKIN programme (£1.08M), supporting the development of advanced sensing technologies and intelligent systems.
My research expertise lies at the intersection of sensors, smart systems, and emerging technologies, with a focus on developing multifunctional sensing platforms and intelligent systems that enhance perception for humans, robots, and smart environments. My work integrates sensor materials, embedded intelligence, and system-level architectures to enable real-time awareness, with a strong emphasis on translating cutting-edge research into practical, scalable engineering solutions. I am actively building a research portfolio aligned with UKRI (including EPSRC), Innovate UK, and international funding frameworks.
I also play a significant role in industry-integrated education, currently leading two degree apprenticeship programmes in collaboration with Rolls-Royce. Through these programmes, I deliver collaborative academic–industry training and contribute to the development of highly skilled engineering professionals. My overall work combines research excellence, industrial collaboration, and global engagement, with a clear focus on impactful, real-world engineering innovation.
I have published over 35 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers in high-impact journals and have co-authored and co-edited four academic books. I serve as an Associate Editor for IEEE Sensors Letters (2024–present), a Guest Editor for both the IEEE Journal on Flexible Electronics and Advanced Intelligent Systems (Wiley), and a member of the Topical Advisory Panel for Sensors (MDPI). I am also Co-Editor of the IET book Sensory Systems for Robotic Applications. In addition, I act as a reviewer for a range of leading journals and conferences, including IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, IEEE Sensors Journal, IEEE Journal on Flexible Electronics, Advanced Engineering Materials (Wiley), Nature Communications, and IEEE Flexible and Printable Sensors Conferences.

Research interests
My main research goal is to develop novel and breakthrough technologies that would significantly improve the performance of systems by making them inherently intelligent, controllable and energy-efficient through a systematic investigation of the underlying concepts and applying them for the design and implementation of solutions for real-life problems. My research interests focus on the following:

Sensor development and system integration
Design and implementation of advanced sensing technologies, including material development and integration into functional, real-world systems.

Intelligent sensing and smart systems
Development of systems with embedded intelligence for real-time data processing, decision-making, and enhanced situational awareness.

Electronic skin and haptic technologies for robotics and human–machine interaction
Creation of flexible, multifunctional e-skin and haptic interfaces to enable tactile sensing, feedback, and intuitive interaction between humans and machines.

Self-powered Systems
Design of energy-efficient and autonomous systems that harvest ambient energy to enable sustainable, long-term operation without external power sources.

Wearable and assistive technologies for robotics and healthcare applications
Development of wearable devices and assistive solutions to support health monitoring, rehabilitation, and human augmentation.

Smart embedded and additively manufactured systems
Integration of sensing, actuation, and intelligence into embedded platforms and 3D-printed structures for next-generation functional devices.
