About

I am the Programme Leader for the BEng Civil Engineering (Apprenticeship) and a Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering. My field of research is movement effects of restrained masonry and concrete. I have over 15 years of teaching experience in Higher education. I have a MEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering with Construction Management and a PhD within the field of masonry, both from the University of Leeds. I have industrial experience as a civil and structural engineer within a design consultancy.

• Structural Analysis Theory and Design 2
• Structural Design Project
• Structural Design 2

I am a dissertation supervisor for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Research interests

• Restrained masonry and concrete movement – edge and end restraint methods, external and internal restraint factors
• Long-term masonry movement – Monitoring large masonry panels- vertical and horizontal moisture movement strain, early and developed movement patterns, Laser scanning to monitor movement, enlarged moisture expansion (cryptoflorescence)
• Composite masonry modelling – prediction models, developed modification factors for restraint and cryptoflorescence
