Earthscale Derby Regional Hub Event Highlights 2026 video transcript

Earth scale is really important to Derby because Derby over the years has started to become a real hub for innovation and I think Earth scale adds another layer to that.
Earthscale it's a project that's made up of six universities Imperial College London as the lead partner. There's also University of Derby, Nottingham, exit lead also Cranfield University.
The idea behind it is that the network works together as one project.
We also support the organizations with enterprise development.
A key takeaway for today for me is that there is talent and there is expertise and there is innovation outside of London.
But not only outside of London but in this city right here in Derby.
For me, I want people to take away that this opportunity exists and it's something that we need to champion.
I think programs like Earth are really important when we think about the integration it requires uh to actually take what is an idea or a concept or a prototype and get it to commercial readiness.
So in many cases integration and testing that you can only get from university support and validation from research.
I think it's an amazing initiative uh in various different ways.
Um and I can really see the support it offers people and and where they need to really scale up uh and be market leaders.
So what we want to do is build Earth scale into the Derby innovation ecosystem but specifically around climate tech.
Those organizations, they know that from an Earthscale perspective, that's the place they need to go to first and foremost if they're looking for support.
I'd like to think that Earth Scale can come to the forefront and be another element of support that's available across the Derby region.
