That Book You Always Meant to Write

A creative and expressive process from beginning to end

This two-day course offers an accessible introduction to all the skills needed to get started writing stories of any length, fiction or non-fiction, realistic or fantastic. It is aimed specifically at anyone who feels they 'have a book in them' but may have hesitated to finish (or even start) writing it.
Accordingly, and concisely, this course surveys the creative and expressive process from beginning to end, covering goals such as inspiration, plotting, character-building, storytelling, description and dialogue, mood and atmosphere, grabbing readers' attention and holding their engagement, the use of memory and imagination, and approaches to redrafting, editing, and workshopping, and eventual canvassing of publication opportunities as appropriate.

At the end of the course, engaged participants should be able to:

• effectively explore, imagine, and evaluate ideas for original works of creative writing
• apply craft methods to develop ideas into fully imagined projects
• explore and apply the expressive skills needed to engage readers with content
