Why study Travel and Tourism Level 3 Extended Diploma at Derby?

This qualification is designed for learners who want to go on to further learning at Degree level or into a relevant Travel and Tourism role. It is particularly relevant for those aged 16-18 undertaking a large programme of full-time study, but is also relevant to adult learners who may be changing career or entering a new industry. This qualification has been allocated UCAS points.

What you will study

There are three mandatory units, which are the core of the qualification. These are:

How you will learn

This course is Face-to-face in the classroom.  Learners will study GCSE English and Maths alongside, if they do not have a grade 4 or above. Learners will also complete a Future Focus programme - a supportive wider skills development programme that enhances progression onto further study or employment. 

Learners will complete an enrichment programme also designed to develop wider skills.

The vocational course will be supported by visiting speakers and educational visits to help learners understand the skills needed in industry and also how theory is applied in a practical industry environment. All learners will complete Work Experience.

How you will be assessed

Each learner is required to create a portfolio of evidence which demonstrates achievement of 100 per cent of each unit. The portfolio can contain a variety of different evidence such as Assessor observation, witness testimony, worksheets, assignments/projects/reports, record of professional discussion, record of oral and written questioning, learner and peer reports, question and answer sheets, web pages, blogs, audio/visual.

This qualification is graded Pass, Merit or Distinction.

Entry requirements

A minimum of Grade 4’s, ideally including English and Maths.

Fees and funding

If you are aged 16-18 on 31 August 2026, you will not usually pay tuition fees for your course. Most full-time college-level study programmes are fully funded for this age group.

However, you may still have additional costs, including: travel to and from college, uniforms, kits, and equipment, educational trips, meals while at college, childcare (if applicable).
