University student accommodation wins big at Global Student Living Awards 2022

The University of Derby has won two accolades at the Global Student Living Awards 2022, scooping Best University Housing (UK & Ireland) and Best Moving In Experience (UK & Ireland).

The 2022 Global Student Living Awards are based exclusively on direct feedback from over 65,000 students at universities and colleges across the UK and Europe.

Commenting on the success, Steve Ward, Head of Accommodation Services at the University of Derby, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to win these awards, which demonstrate that the overall experience our staff provide is rated higher by our students than in any other institution in the UK and Ireland.

“Best University Housing is the flagship award and covers all aspects of the services we provide, so to win this is a fantastic achievement for our teams. In addition, winning Best Moving In Experience is a real testament to the positive changes we implemented during the pandemic. 

“Our success at the Awards is great recognition for the fantastic work our staff and teams do to enhance the student experience at the University of Derby. A huge thank you and well done to all involved.”

 Some of the initiatives which the Student Living team believe contributed to winning the awards include the implementation of a more localised and 'hands on' welcome to halls, in conjunction with all departments in the University.

 In addition, the team has continued to deliver a sector-leading Residence Life programme helping students meet other students and integrate into university life. The team continues to ensure that all staff are trained to deliver high levels of customer service and that students are put first in decision-making processes.

The winners of the 2022 awards were announced at ‘GSL Live 22: Net-zero Student Living’ – a live event which took place in London.

As well as winning the two awards, the University was also a finalist in the Best Booking Experience category.
