Teaching is a rewarding and fulfilling career that attracts a broad range of graduates.

Working in education is an opportunity like no other to shape the lives of young people.

You will develop as a person and gain the skills and confidence you need to teach in classroom settings across the world.

Knowing you've been part of transforming students lives is enriching and rewarding.

Studying online gives our students access to a global cohort of teaching professionals.

This gives a unique insight into different practices and techniques, enriching your learning.

It's a chance to reflect on practice of other countries giving you insights into a global educational system, instead of just focusing on where you are based.

You can enrich your own practice by taking on ideas and practices from other parts of the world.

You'll be taught by experts in subject and age phase, who are experienced leaders of education in schools.

You will be given access to an expert mentor in your setting.

For some programmes, there will be regular contact between the University, mentor and trainee, to develop a nuanced programme which caters to your emerging needs.

The mentors themselves are qualified practitioners with a range of experience you can draw from.

Studying online allows you to study at your own pace around other commitments.

Many of our students are working full time, have busy family lives and other priorities.

In many cases, studying online is the only way they can fit their studies in around their schedules.

You can study anywhere, at any time that suits you.

On the IQTS programme for example, we put synchronous sessions at different time zones to give you the opportunity to fully engage with the programme.

Tutors are always contactable by email.

We want you to have a great experience and feel supported throughout the programme.

The University of Derby has a long standing commitment to delivering online programmes with many years of experience.

Teacher education has been part of the University's history for the last two centuries.

Our commitment is to develop first class thinking professionals.

The curriculum is research informed and research led, meaning you will be exposed to the most up to date practices and pedagogical approaches.

Qualifying makes you an attractive proposition to future employers, having developed a range of desirable skills and knowledge.

We're a forward thinking university, constantly striving to maintain a reputation of excellence in the sector as recognised by regulatory bodies in the UK, such as the Office for Standards and Education.

We have international experts who are also at the forefront of their field in research they’re undertaking.

This enables you to engage critically with key ideas in the discipline.

If you're going to be the critical thinking teacher we strive for you to be, having access to these experts develops your ability to problematise education, making you a small scale researcher in your own setting every day.

Let's start with the International PGCE.

This programme is aimed at those in educational practice, though not necessarily in schools.

The focus is three academic modules exposing you to key ideas around Professional Identity, Contemporary Pedagogy and Inclusive Practice.

You can join the programme at any three points: September, January and May, and upon completion you will graduate with an IPGCE qualification studied fully at level seven.

The IQTS programme is for those aspiring to achieve qualified teacher status, as recognised in England and Wales.

The UK is world leading in teacher education development, and studying this course gives you the chance to train to this standard in the country in which you reside.

The course covers the full primary curriculum.

If you want to add to your IQTS qualification, you can study the IQTS with IPGCE, which adds an additional postgraduate level qualification to your IQTS.

This exposes you to thinking more critically about educational concepts and pedagogy, and adds a critical lens to your training.

Both routes start in September and run for one academic year, and you must be able to find your own placement.

The Assessment Only Route to QTS is for those who have experience in schools, working as teachers, and who can demonstrate that they can meet the teacher standards.

Our role is to work with your employer to ascertain if you meet entry requirements, and are in a position to be assessed only against the teacher standards and be awarded QTS. There is no taught content to this route.

For all QTS programmes, we will engage remotely in watching you teach through online software which we’ll give you access to upon enrolment.

You'll get regular detailed and specific feedback to help with your development.

When considering what programme to study, have a good look at the website, at the different options we offer, and establish which course is best for you.

If you need to contact any of our programme leaders to ask any questions, their contact details can be found on the website.

We have various question and answer sessions we hold regularly online, so you can ask any questions you may have, if you're unsure about which course to study.

You can always arrange a call or attend one of our regular drop in sessions with our academic team, who would be happy to help you.

Overall, we have a deep conceptual understanding of education at Derby and we want you to succeed.

We have supportive systems in place for you to achieve.

We're a passionate team with a real interest in seeing you thrive in educational settings.

The more people who contribute to education, the more chance we have of maximising outcome for young people to be successful in their next steps.

Do you see yourself as the next person to contribute to that success?

You really can make an impact.

We hope to see you soon at the University of Derby.
