About
I am a Lecturer in Computer Science at the University of Derby and Programme Leader for the MSc Advanced Data Science and MSc Applied Data Science programmes. My teaching focuses on data science, artificial intelligence, and applied computing, with a strong emphasis on industry-relevant education, practical learning, and preparing students for careers in rapidly evolving digital sectors. As part of my programme leadership role, I am currently leading the transition of the MSc Advanced Data Science and MSc Applied Data Science programmes to the University’s block teaching delivery model, supporting curriculum redesign, programme enhancement, and student engagement.
Alongside teaching and academic leadership, I am actively engaged in research at the intersection of applied artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), and cyber security, with a focus on designing secure, intelligent, and scalable digital systems for real-world applications. My work explores how AI-driven methods can be integrated with connected technologies to address challenges in cyber security, intelligent automation, and data-driven decision-making. I am particularly interested in translating emerging technologies into practical solutions that create meaningful impact for industry and society. I am currently involved in delivering United Kingdom Research and Innovation (UKRI)-funded collaborative research and have secured a total research funding of over £510,000 to date through competitive national and international funding schemes. I am full member of the collaborative and data-centric engineering research cluster in the Data Science Research Centre.
I also contribute to the University’s wider research governance as a full member of the College Research and Ethics Committee at the University of Derby. In this role, I review research ethics applications from doctoral researchers, postgraduate students, and academic colleagues, supporting the ethical conduct of research across the College and helping ensure that research activity meets appropriate academic and professional standards.
Teaching responsibilities
My teaching responsibilities include delivering a diverse range of computing modules across postgraduate and undergraduate programmes, with particular focus on data science, artificial intelligence, security, and applied computing. As Programme Leader for the MSc Advanced Data Science and MSc Applied Data Science programmes, I oversee programme delivery, curriculum development, student experience, and academic quality. I also supervise postgraduate research projects and support students in their academic and professional development.
