About

I am a Lecturer in Psychology. My research focuses on human deception, including cues to deception (i.e., the behaviours that differentiate lies and truths) and deception detection. I am particularly interested in building theory around how people detect deception and what causes cues to deception. I have also published research on the human-nature relationship. I’m particularly interested in the biodiversity dimensions of this relationship – for example, what developmental factors cause people to become passionate about biodiversity, and what factors lead people to undertake conservation action. I teach and supervise research projects on both the BSc and MSc Psychology programmes.

Teaching responsibilities

I lead and teach on Individual Differences and Quantitative Methods (BSc) and Investigation and Analysis (MSc), which focus on research and statistics, and Psychology, Nature and Wellbeing (BSc). I also supervise BSc, PGDip and MSc research projects.

Additional interests and activities

I run two small conservation charities that improve habitats for biodiversity (e.g., create nature reserves, plant woods, restore wetlands) and protect habitats through campaigning and buying important wild sites.
