About

I am a mature student and spent a lifetime (35+ years) as a professional engineer specialising in gas turbines (industrial, marine and aero) and power (gas and electric) transmission systems. I took the opportunity to come back to university for the interest and the challenge.

My research is undertaken in the field of audio engineering and the aim of my project is to develop, optimise and validate an optimisation method for distributed microphone array topologies to monitor 2D and 3D sound fields in order to determine the location of sound sources and to examine how they impact on each other and analyse their impact on any object/space within the monitored region. There will be experimental work in the anechoic chamber and once a suitable method has been validated the method will be tested in one or more real-world use cases.

Thesis

Analysis and optimization of microphone array topologies for sound field monitoring.
