About

I have been working in the not-for-profit sector, including setting up my own social enterprises for many years. I more recently set up a social enterprise run by carers for carers, having looked after my mum for over 10 years. I have used community social work approaches in much of the work I have carried out with marginalised communities. I have a particular commitment to social justice and rights-based work, and this includes feminist causes and injustices that impact on oppressed groups. I have been lecturing for nearly 6 years, specialising in my commitment to anti-oppressive practices

Teaching responsibilities

I teach on the social work programmes and will shortly module lead for a new exciting addition to our programme about community social work. This is important because many of our students go into the not-for-profit placements and the module will help them develop appropriate skills, theory and knowledge which they can go on to use in their practice.

Research interests

I am completing a doctorate that specialised in unpaid carers and the Care Act 2014. I have published articles associated with this research. I have advocated for a community social work approach which promotes the agency of members of oppressed communities to decide how their communities should use resources and work together. I use a fully qualitative approach to research, specialising in reflexive thematic analysis and photovoice. I have an interest in feminist research
