Animation at the University of Derby video transcript video transcript

Colourful animated clips are shown on screen with an overlay of the University of Derby logo and 'Animation BA (Hons)' in white.

Stuart Poynton, Programme Leader, for BA (Hons) Animation, appears on screen and says: I think the the course here is popular because students get to explore many different ways of making animation. We introduce lots of different production methods and then it is up to the students to interpret those and fuse them together into a unique way of making their own work. So the students come out from our course with a very unique portfolio, very sort of USP for how they make their their sort of films.

Hermione, third year student, says: I think it's just great. I think because everyone is constantly trying to do something new, everyone's constantly having to communicate with each other and say their experience in that thing and just helping each other out all the time.

Jack, first year student, says: I feel like it's already helped me improve my productivity when it comes to animation. Before I started, I'd dabbled a bit of animation, but I would never be very quick at making stuff, but I feel as if this course has really sped up my process and made me a lot more efficient.

Lou, second year student, says: I'd say my experience on the course has been really good so far. So I got a lot of opportunities out of this course that I didn't think I was going to get. For example, last year I went to Vegas and I was chosen to go on this international workshop and collaborate with the University of Nevada which was fantastic and an experience that I never thought I would actually get.

Sam, graduate, says:  I think the course is really good for developing you as an artist in your own right and understanding what you want to do and what your art looks like and how you practice. The modules are very good at setting you up for post university
through the development of CV shows that sort of thing. You're really set up to hit the ground running postgraduation and start applying for industry jobs.

Stuart: I'd say that the students that do really well on the course are are someone that comes in with an open mind, someone that comes in with a desire to tell stories, a desire to kind of make creative work, really embracing that sort of varied sort of approach to making artwork and making animation.

Hermione: I think just getting over the learning curves constantly, it's such an achievement seeing the results. It's worth it. It's always worth it. And I've just learned so much about myself by like having to go through these like difficult learning experiences. I would say please apply.

Sam: I think it's a great course. I had a great time while I was here. I think the course is made better by lots of diversity of different artists and lots of creatives. And I would say if you do decide to apply, just throw yourself into it. You'll have a great time. take all the opportunities that the course provides you and you'll just have a great time. You'll make friends. It's it's lovely and three years will fly by.
