How Clearing led Sanjana to a future-proof career with AI

When Sanjana was thinking about university, she was certain of one thing - she wanted a future in business. Inspired by watching her father start his own company, she planned to study Business Management.  

But one unexpected conversation through Clearing introduced her to a course she hadn't heard of – and she never looked back. 

Now, Sanjana is studying International Business and AI at the University of Derby, a pioneering degree that combines business expertise with the technologies shaping the future. 

Inspired by entrepreneurship 

Business has always been part of Sanjana's life. Seeing her father launch his own company in 2021 inspired her to follow a similar path and sparked her interest in entrepreneurship. 

"My dad has always worked really hard and seeing that growing up inspired me. He built his business from the ground up, and it showed me that if you put the effort in and stay determined, you can achieve a lot." 

How Derby led Sanjana on a new path  

Sanjana originally planned to study Business Management, but her journey changed when she and her father received a phone call from the University of Derby after results day, inviting them to consider International Business and AI and visit the newly opened Cavendish Building. 

“I wasn’t aware of the International Business and AI course at Derby until we were invited to come to the University and have a chat in person with one of the lecturers about the course. 

“Everyone was friendly and welcoming. The lecturers took the time to answer my questions, and it made me feel like it was a place where I'd be supported and could do well.” 

 Looking back, Sanjana said the support she received throughout the application process gave her confidence in her decision.

Partnership with Rolls-Royce

“The degree attracted me because of its collaboration with Rolls-Royce, which has given me the opportunity to learn from real industry challenges and gain valuable experience alongside my studies. 

“It has given me valuable insight into how the industry works and helped me better understand the career opportunities available in this field.” 

Preparing for a future in finance 

After graduation, Sanjana hopes to pursue a career in financial consulting, applying both her business knowledge and AI expertise gained throughout her degree to help organisations make smarter decisions 

“My future career plans are to work in financial consulting after completing my degree. I hope to apply the knowledge and skills I have gained from my course to build a successful career in this area. 

"Integration of AI in any career is going to be in the future, and financial consulting especially, as AI helps financial consultants work faster by analysing data, predicting trends and spotting risks."
