Health Research

The Health and Social Care Research Centre, conducts multi-disciplinary, high-impact applied research that supports the transformation of services within the field. The Centre research falls into 3 broad areas:

• Optimising individual health and wellbeing – enhancing the management, care and treatment of people
• Promoting healthy communities – improving the health and wellbeing of local populations and communities
• Building and developing an effective health and social care workforce – including building the professional evidence base and transforming the roles of health and social care professionals

The Centre was established as a joint collaboration between the University of Derby, NHS England and the four Clinical Commissioning Committees across Derbyshire.

Areas of specialism

• Arts in health including social gerontology & dementia, especially late in life creativity, arts therapies and creative expressive therapies
• Health care research, including public health research and health workforce development
• Compassion and wellbeing
• International approaches to trauma & mental health.

Our Humanities Research

We have a longstanding reputation in all of our subjects and our staff are active researchers at the highest level. Staff within Humanities contribute to the Communication, Cultural and Media Studies unit of assessment in the Research Excellence Framework.
