Frequently asked questions

Which courses are exempt from the Alumni Scholarship?

The following courses and study modes are exempt from the scholarship:

When will my Alumni Scholarship be applied?

The Alumni Scholarship is applied after your enrolment has been confirmed and your eligibility has been verified. This is usually within 7 working days of confirmation of enrolment.

While most scholarships are applied within these timescales, please allow up to one month for the scholarship to be reflected on your student account.

Once the scholarship has been applied, you will be able to see it on your account, and it will be deducted from the outstanding balance of your tuition fees. This will normally be reflected in your next due payment.

How do I apply?

The Alumni Scholarship is applied after your enrolment has been confirmed and your eligibility has been verified. If the scholarship has not been applied within one month of enrolment confirmation, please contact the Student Records and Awards Team by email: studentrecordsandawards@derby.ac.uk.

Will this change my payment plan?

The Alumni Scholarship will adjust the overall fee payable to the University. Once applied, the Alumni Scholarship will be deducted from your tuition fee balance and will normally be reflected in your next scheduled payment.

Therefore, you may notice that the payments due towards the end of the year will be the same as those without the Alumni Scholarship, but the overall fee paid will be lower.

Will I get the Alumni Scholarship for every year on the course?

If you continue on the same course, you will receive the Alumni Scholarship you were eligible for at the start of the course, for every year of study on that course. If your course changes or you begin a new course, you may no longer be eligible for the Alumni Scholarship.

The Alumni Scholarship is applied after enrolment has been confirmed each academic year and eligibility has been verified. For returning students, this is typically completed within 7 working days of enrolment confirmation, although you should allow up to one month for the scholarship to be reflected on your account.

If after one month, you do not believe the Alumni Scholarship is applied to your account, please contact the Student Records and Awards Team by email: studentrecordsandawards@derby.ac.uk.

How can I find out what my Tuition Fee status is?

During the application process your Tuition Fee Status (also known as your residency) will be assessed. When you are issued an offer letter from the University, your offer letter will include your Tuition Fee status. This will also be confirmed to you during the enrolment process.
