Bladder and Bowel Dysfunction: Paediatric and Adult

This module aims to develop your specialist knowledge and skills in paediatric and adult continence dysfunction within primary, secondary and care settings (care homes, nurseries, and early years settings). It will provide insight into continence exploring minimum standards of care, what service provision looks like and working within current guidance and standards.

Those who have an interest in continence care or are already working within a Paediatric or Adult continence setting.

What you'll study

This module will cover normal anatomy and physiology and assessment of bladder and bowel dysfunction to develop an understanding of pathological, physical, and psychological aspects when assessing patients. Whilst the underpinning theory and fundamental principles remain the same, it is important to have an understanding of key issues from across the lifespan, for example helping with transition as a child goes into adulthood.

Developing an in-depth understanding of an evidence-based comprehensive bladder and bowel assessment, using a wide range of assessment tools, will enable the practitioner to: develop a robust care plan (including an individualised treatment plan,) enhance the patient's health education and work towards a preliminary diagnosis within the scope of the Registered Nurses professional practice area.

How you will learn

You will undertake theoretical lectures across the three months some face-to-face and some asynchronous lectures. You will also need to consider learning within the workplace context whilst undertaking the module. 

Assessment

You will be assessed with one assessment which will be a work-based case study.

2024/25

The module costs are £1250 per person. This can be self-funded or employer-funded. A sponsor letter will be required if your employer is sponsoring your place on the module.
