University of Derby Sustainability Statement

The University of Derby acknowledges the climate and ecological emergency and recognises the impact and responsibility it has as an anchor-organisation to take proactive and positive steps to reduce its carbon impact and advance its environmental sustainability.  As an institution of higher education and a centre of excellence in research and innovation, the University of Derby aims to develop globally conscious graduates and deliver impactful solutions to the issues and processes that are both causing and a result of some of the challenges faced as a result of climate change and biodiversity loss.  The University Environmental Sustainability Strategy outlines eight core aspects which the University will focus on to progress towards a sustainable future, engaging with staff and students to promote a shift towards a new relationships with nature and the environment. net zero carbon and engage staff and students to take pro-environmental decisions.   The journey towards net zero carbon and nature connectedness is a long one; however, the University of Derby recognises the need to take timely decisions in order to have long-term effect on our environmental sustainability.
