This Certificate of Credit in General Practice Nursing is a 10-week, Level 7 short course designed for Registered Nurses who want to develop their knowledge, skills and confidence in General Practice Nursing within Primary Care.

Drawn from our Postgraduate Certificate in General Practice Nursing, this 20 credit course introduces the core principles of working in a Primary Care setting. You’ll explore the role of the General Practice Nurse, develop your ability to deliver person-centred, evidence-based care, and build competence for working both autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

The course supports your transition into General Practice or progression within the field and the skills needed to assess, plan and manage care, contribute to population health initiatives, and respond effectively to the evolving demands of population-based health care.

How you will learn

This flexible online module is designed to fit around your work and personal commitments, allowing you to study at your own pace while applying your learning directly to practice.

You’ll engage with resources that present contemporary Primary Care challenges and develop skills that are immediately relevant to your role or future career.

Pace of study

The course is completed over one trimester. We recommend around 20 hours of study per week to complete one 20-credit module over a 10-week trimester for the standard study plan.

Entry requirements

Applications are welcomed from practitioners who meet the following criteria:

Applicants (Registered Nurses) without a current Bachelor of Science degree may gain entry through completion of our BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies (top-up) degree.

English language qualifications

If English is not your first language, or you have not successfully completed your highest level of qualification in English, you will need an English language qualification equivalent to a minimum IELTS (International English Language Testing System) average score of 6.5 in all areas.

Documents to support your application

For your application to be assessed, you will need to provide the following documents when you apply:

  • Official photo identification such as a passport or driving licence
  • NMC PIN / evidence of your Nursing Registration
  • Current CV
  • Written reference supplied on headed paper from either a manager, supervisor, tutor or teacher
  • Copies of certificates and transcripts or a letter of testimony for previous qualifications*

*Documents not in English or Welsh must be accompanied by a certified translation by a professional translator/translation company. Each translation must contain:

  • Confirmation from the translator that it is an accurate translation of the original document
  • The date of the translation
  • The full name and signature of the translator, or an authorised official of the company
  • The translator’s contact details

A list of approved translators can be found on the UK Government website.

Please note: failure to submit any documentation when requested, may result in your application being withdrawn.
