Theo Paphitis joins the Chancellor's Entrepreneurs' Club video transcript

In this perspective video, we begin on a gentleman inside The Cavendish Building in front of reflective glass walls, identified as 'Theo Paphitis; University of Derby Visiting Professor of Entrepreneurship.'

Theo: "People often ask me what piece of advice can I give them that's going to allow them to grow their entrepreneurial spirit, talent, and their business. And I always say quite simply, the harder you work, the luckier you get. And by the way, if you're not passionate about what you're doing, if yeou can't bore your friends in a pub or in a coffee house, don't do it. Go and do something else."

[During this part, we see a networking event taking place, as young students and entrepreneurs interact with senior businessmen and women.]

"Well, the Chancellor's Entrepreneur Club, which is a fantastic initiative, is something that's going to run alongside what's going on here in this new building. We're hopefully going to have, it depends how many we can accommodate, but many, many students join that. And it'll be a monthly get together. There'll be tasks given to them and we will monitor those tasks and help them succeed, give them advice and hopefully at the end of it, they'll have a path for growth and for the future."

[We see Theo Paphitis shaking hands with Chancellor Lord Burlington as he receives a University scroll, with people in the background applauding. We see a wider exterior shot of the building, a clean, modern architectural structure. The upper section of the building features light grey panelling with vertical, rectangular windows that reflect the sky. The lower and central sections of the building are rendered in a warm, burnt orange colour. To the far right, green foliage from trees are visible.

We see more external shots of The Cavendish Building, including three students walking up stairs and into the main entrance, underneath gold lettering 'The Cavendish Building'. We see an electronic marquee across the building which alternates between University of Derby logos and 'Welcome to The Cavendish Building' text. Wooden 'Spanish steps' seating benches inside the Atrium with a large University of Derby logo on the back panel. A group of students ascend a staircase, followed by a pan up the floor-to-ceiling height of the Atrium, revealing multiple floors, and crisscrossed, wood panel-framed staircases. We see Theo in conversation to a large audience in The Brian Ashby Lecture Theatre.]

"It's really impossible to walk into this building and not be impressed and be in awe of what its potential is and what is now available to the students of Derby University. I'm really looking forward and be inspired myself with enthusiasm and the energy of the students that are starting on their path - on their entrepreneur path - like I did all those years ago. But hopefully I can share some of my knowledge, my experience, my contacts - just to make that path just a little bit, a little bit slicker and easier."

[During this segment, we see a shot of a sign on a modern building - it contains the University of Derby logo and 'The Cavendish Building.' We see two female students descending the stairs into a busy Atrium event. We pan around a classroom where an academic is presenting to a large class of attentive young students.

We end on the University of Derby logo.]
