About the day

Get hands-on with Biomedical Science at Kedleston Road Campus and explore our brand-new specialist Bioscience Superlab facilities. This immersive event gives Year 12 and 13 students the opportunity to experience real-world medical science in action.

Led by expert academics who are active researchers, the day provides real insight into how careers in Biomedical Science make a real difference to people’s lives.

Throughout the day, students will:

• Take part in practical laboratory sessions
• Gain insight into studying Biomedical Science at university level
• Tour specialist facilities, including teaching laboratories and wider campus resources
• Learn more about careers across the sector

A highlight of the day is the opportunity to work in our specialist Superlab, gaining hands-on experience in a professional laboratory environment. Students will rotate through practical sessions, a subject-focused lecture, and a campus tour, ensuring a varied and engaging experience.

This event is ideal for students who enjoy science and are interested in careers that transform people’s lives.

Structure of the day

9:30am – 10:00am Arrival and Welcome Presentation

10:00am – 12:10pm Rotational sessions

Students will rotate through:

• Practical 1 – Blood Smears
• Practical 2 – Genes in a Bottle
• Biomedical Science Lecture
• Campus Tour

12:10pm – 1:00pm Lunch

1:00pm – 3:10pm Rotational sessions continue

3:10pm – 3:30pm Closing Q&A, feedback, and departure
