We do all we can to help you achieve your career ambitions and you’ll be supported by expert teams who are there to keep your progress on track. Having good attendance at teaching sessions and seeking out opportunities to engage with the University, Union of Students and local community will ensure you really make the most of your time at Derby.

Personal Academic Tutor (PAT)

You’ll be assigned a Personal Academic Tutor (PAT) who is there to support, stretch and challenge you. They’ll guide you throughout your time with us and will be in touch regularly to discuss your progress and ensure you’re on track to achieve your goals.

Library support

Our Library offers a range of services to support your studies. Our User Experience team run tours of the library to help familiarise you with facilities and resources.

Develop@Derby

Whether you’re looking to build new skills or strengthen ones you already have, Develop@Derby is here to support you every step of the way. Our Skills Librarians deliver a wide range of workshops and activities, both on campus and online, designed to support your personal growth and development.

Careers

The Careers and Employment Service provide support from day one through to three years after graduation, helping you to find meaningful employment. You’ll have fantastic opportunities to gain part-time work experience and undertake placements and internships with local, regional and global employers.

Global opportunities

Studying or working abroad offers you an incredible opportunity to travel the world, experience a new culture, make unforgettable memories and develop career-enhancing skills such as confidence and communication. Through our Global Opportunities Scheme, you’ll build an impressive CV and gain a competitive edge in today’s international job market.

Financial support

Once you’re here you have two main costs to consider – tuition fees and living costs.

Tuition fees pay for your teaching, mandatory study trips and access to core textbooks through our library and vary depending on whether you are undergraduate or postgraduate, studying part time or full time, and whether you are a UK, EU or international student.

Living costs are on average £190 - £230 per week and include accommodation, food and socialising.

The cost of living will understandably be on your mind, but the good news is that Derby has been named one of the most affordable UK cities for students.

We have experienced Student Money Advisers who are on hand to offer useful budgeting tips to help you make your money go further. If you’re feeling anxious about your finances or would like some friendly, expert advice, please don’t hesitate to contact the Student Hub.

We have lots of other help available to you:

• Our fixed price accommodation comes with all-inclusive bills so there’s no hidden costs
• There are free laptops, software and multimedia equipment available for you to hire and use to support your studies
• Remember to register for your UNIDAYS and TOTUM student discount card to lower your everyday expenses. You can also register as a student with big names including Amazon and Spotify to pay less for your subscriptions.

We advertise part-time roles, placements and work experience opportunities for students and can provide support with applications and interviews. Opportunities like this are a great way to earn some extra money and build your employability skills while you study.
