In this lecture Professor Hooley will draw on his work in the UK and overseas to consider the future of the career education system.

He said: “Career education and guidance can help individuals to realise their potential. It makes an implicit promise to people that they can be the best they can be and offers help for people to self-actualise.

“However, recent government policy has reduced access to services at the same time as pursuing educational, social and labour market policies that worsen inequality and mitigate against social justice.”

Professor Hooley will explore potential responses to new political challenges and the implications of more clearly tying career education to the concept of social justice for policy and practice in the field.

Professor Hooley is also interested in the role of new technologies in education, career development and research, the role of appearance and attractiveness in careers and social justice in careers work. He has published extensively on career development and has lectured in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the USA, Saudi Arabia and all across Europe.
